108 hand-tied dry flies built around one idea: when trout are looking up, you should have the right fly in the box. Nine proven patterns cover the major mayfly, caddis, stonefly and midge hatches, the ants and hoppers trout eat all summer, and the attractors that pull fish up when nothing is hatching. Every pattern comes in three of each size, from big #6 Stimulators down to #22 Blue Winged Olives.
Picked by a professional fly fishing guide. Every fly in this kit earned its spot on real guide trips: these are the patterns we tie on for clients day after day, in the sizes trout actually eat. No filler flies, no colors that only catch fishermen.
What's inside
| Pattern | Hook sizes | Flies | When to fish it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Parachute Adams | 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 | 15 | The all-purpose mayfly with an easy-to-see post. Tie it on when you don't know what's hatching. |
| Elk Hair Caddis, Brown | 12, 14, 16, 18 | 12 | Caddis hatches spring through fall. Twitch or skate it on the surface. |
| Blue Winged Olive | 16, 18, 20, 22 | 12 | Cool, cloudy days in spring and fall when the small olives come off. |
| Pale Morning Dun | 14, 16, 18 | 9 | Summer mayfly hatches on tailwaters and spring creeks. |
| Royal Wulff | 10, 12, 14, 16 | 12 | High-floating attractor for pocket water and fast mountain streams. |
| Stimulator, Yellow | 6, 8, 10, 12 | 12 | Stoneflies and caddis. A great top fly for a dry-dropper rig. |
| Chubby Chernobyl, Tan | 6, 8, 10, 12 | 12 | Big foam hopper and stonefly. Floats all day and carries a heavy nymph. |
| Black Foam Ant | 12, 14, 16, 18 | 12 | Ants fall in all summer and trout eat them everywhere, especially on slow, clear water. |
| Griffith's Gnat | 16, 18, 20, 22 | 12 | Midge clusters on slow, flat water when fish are sipping tiny bugs. |
How to use it
- Match the size first. Getting the size right matters more than the exact pattern. Catch a bug, hold it next to the bags, and pick the closest size.
- Not sure what's hatching? Start with a #14 Parachute Adams or a #16 Elk Hair Caddis. Between them they cover most days.
- Fishing a dry-dropper? A Chubby Chernobyl or Stimulator floats a bead head nymph all day.
- Summer afternoons: when nothing is hatching in July and August, drift an ant or a Chubby tight to the bank.
- Treat them before you fish. A little floatant before the first cast keeps them riding high.
Who it's for
Anyone building a trout box from scratch, filling the gaps in an old one, or heading somewhere new and wanting to be ready for whatever hatches. It also makes a great gift for the fly angler who has everything except enough flies.
